A Little About Me:

I was an English major in college, which has contributed to my communication skills in marketing and design. That degree, combined with a background of being "artistic," (being able to draw, etc...) opened the door to graphic design. Early on it was package and logo design, and later, point of sale and promotional materials. That all eventually developed into integrated marketing communication. Concepting, slogans and strategic thinking.

Being able to communicate with a picture alone is a challenge, an artist does that on a canvas, or sculpture, or what have you. The graphic designer has the added ability to use words with his pictures to communicate. Its this type of communication design that hooked me years ago. I really love what I do.

Photography:

I am not a professional photographer, but I love to take pictures. One of my interests is wildlife and nature, particularly birds. I've found that I don't have to travel too far afield, most of the birds and animals I've photographed are in my back yard.
I've always been interested in woodpeckers. They are fascinating birds that leave their mark on rotten trees wherever you look. Maybe you never looked or noticed these trees, but I started taking pictures of them, and have compiled a
pretty cool gallery.
I have plenty of pictures of the kids and family, go to MottoleseFamily.com for those. For the more "artistic" or scenic photos you can visit them here. Also there are various
pictures of birds and nature that I've taken primarily in our backyard.

Drawing/Painting:

I grew up drawing. A high school obsession with cartoon versions of my classmates had people saying, "Hey, that's really pretty good" Doodling in my notebook in school turned into an interest that I developed with a little extra education. I guess drawing was my introduction to design.
I still like to draw and even sometimes paint, so check out some of my work here.
